Summary

Helfrich Brothers Boiler Works (HBBW) is looking for a Quality Assurance Specialist for the field services division. The position focuses on inspections and acceptance criteria of pressure part welds inside powerplants, and the internal section of power boilers related to waste to energy facilities. Position requires working inside power boilers that can have limited accessibility with confined spaces including wearing a full-face respirator.

Major Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with codes related to NBIC Part 3 Repairs and Alterations/ASME Sec I Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code/ASME Sec IX Welding
  • Perform visual inspections required by ASME Code not performed by third party inspectors.
  • Implement the Owners Quality Control Manual for fabrication, inspection, documentation, and operations activities including:
    • Material inspection reports on all pressure parts prior to installation.
    • Approve finished products by conducting visual tests, returning products for rework, confirming rework.
    • Document inspection results by completing reports and logs.
    • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following all safety requirements.

Preferred Experience/Requirements/Certifications

  • 3+ years working experience in ASME Code Fabrication/Welding
  • Basic knowledge of ASME WPS and welding/welding operator qualifications
  • CWI qualification preferred.
  • Ability to detect non-conformance deficiencies and provide root cause analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with all internal departments,
  • Ability to speak bilingual preferred.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; work in confined places; working on scaffolding at various height levels that require wearing a safety harness; outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can become loud at times requiring noise protection.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Schedule:

  • Up to 7 days per week, 12 hours a day until a project is completed and then move to the next available project.
  • Daily per diem provided.
  • HBBW covers hotel room cost.

Different facilities throughout the United States with a majority of facilities in the Northeastern part.

Boiler Maker/Welder for Outage Season (Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast)

Boiler Maker/Welder for Outage Season (Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast)

Helfrich Brothers Boiler Works is looking for Boiler Makers/Welders to join our Outages Team. The successful candidate must be able to meet both the physical demands and technical skills of this job and be prepared to travel to project sites and spend long spans of time away from home.

Responsibilities

  • Making, installing, and repairing boilers
  • Reading blueprints, casting pieces and bending
  • Welding and Bolting pieces together
  • Testing boilers & performing routine maintenance
  • Assisting code welders & rigging
  • Working with a variety of tools and use rigging
  • Working during forced outages/emergencies (day or night shift)
  • Fabricating and assembling metal structures
  • Reading and interpreting diagrams, sketches, blueprints
  • Performing jobs safely while adhering to all safety guidelines
  • Demonstrating professionalism

Field Services - Equipment Logistics Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Operations – Field Services

Summary
Helfrich Brothers Boiler Works (HBBW) is looking for an Equipment Logistics Coordinator to join our Field Services Team. Successful candidate will ensure all trailers are stocked with proper equipment, material, and inventory to perform a safe work during outages. This role is responsible for:

  • Tooling and trailer inventory
  • Logistical moving of trailers from job site to job site
  • Quality and safety of all projects

 

Major Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs regular inspections and repairs on company equipment when necessary and practical
  • Responsible for field service trailers and their contents including getting them stocked and equipped for outages as well as making sure registration is in good standing
  • Responsible for sea boxes, rigging gear, and specialty equipment used in outages throughout all projects
  • Communicates and works closely with all divisions of the company including purchasing, rentals, as well as shipping and receiving needs
  • Coordinating travel, lodging, and hotels in a timely manner
  • Works with other managers to improve the overall operation of the company while reducing costs and increasing profits
  • Plans and works independently or within a group
  • Responsible for picking up or scheduling shipment of parts and material for projects
  • Responsible for transporting inventory from vendors to warehouse
  • Must be able to operate vehicle with hitch trailer attached (32 ft. App.)

Education/Skills/Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates degree preferred.
  • Mechanically inclined and skilled with basic tools
  • Intermediate in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and SharePoint

Experienced Fabricator

Reports to:  Production Manager

Summary

Helfrich Brothers Boiler Works is seeking a highly skilled and experienced metal fabricator to join our growing team. Top candidates will promote a “safety first” environment and be committed to quality. Applicants must have a strong working knowledge and ability to demonstrate independent proficiency in the following key areas:

  • Job lay out: Full understanding and interpretation of blueprints and ability to lay out and fit jobs and patterns without assistance or supervision
  • Bending / Rolling: Accurate and safe operation of large brake presses (300 & 500 ton), and large rolling equipment
  • Welding: Ability to adequately weld any orientation utilizing GMAW, GTAW, Arc and Sub-Arc of carbon / mild steel, stainless steel alloys, aluminum, and other materials

Major Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Blueprint /drawings / spec sheet reading with a practical understanding of symbols, measurements, and instructions.
  • Planning, layout, and fitting of pipe / tube assemblies, nozzles, manufactured shapes, and intricate configurations.
  • Accurate measurement and marking of materials for layout, fitting, and fabrication.
  • Inspection and checking of in-process and final workmanship, with the ability to identify, report, and correct defects, and gauge accurate conformity to tight tolerances per drawings or specifications.
  • Regular and collaborative communication with other functions and departments (safety, quality, management teams, etc.).
  • Maintenance of one’s work area including any equipment and/or machinery used (basic housekeeping and light PM when needed).
  • Taking pride in the cleanliness of one’s work area, and the quality of the work produced.

Preferred Experience/Requirements/Certifications

  • Minimum 5-year full-time experience as a comprehensive metal fabricator, including 5 years of key tasks such as blueprint reading, job layout, fabricating, bending, rolling, grinding, welding, and other related processes.
  • Understanding of basic geometry and trigonometry in order to calculate and identify degree of angles, circumference and penetration of welds, and other spatial concepts.
  • Proficient use of micrometers, vernier calipers, combination squares, tape measurers, and other measurement equipment.
  • Safe use of grinders, bevelers, saws, power shears, drills, and other machinery / tools both handheld and powered. Safe use of forklifts, cranes, hoists, and other rigging / loading equipment.
